Given that the Washington State Governor’s Office has ordered the closure of the state’s school buildings for the remainder of the school year, the focus of this 2nd Village Square program is to provide LISD students and families with information about the support efforts underway and resources available during these challenging times of online schooling at home. The panelists will address:
Academic and mental health support options for students. Guidance for parents who are playing multiple roles in their homes. Expectations for students of all grades regarding completing the academic year through on-line learning. Effects of the closure on grade level assessment and advancement. The current and anticipated financial situation at LISD. Updates on how the school is addressing Independent Education Plans (IEPs) and Special Education requirements.
The program will feature four representatives of the Lopez Island School District:
LISD Superintendent / Elementary Principal – Brian Auckland
LISD SPED Director – Kathy Booth
LISD School Counselor – Jeanna Carter
LISD Secondary Principal – Martha Martin
The program will also hear an update from San Juan County Council-member, representing Lopez Island, Jamie Stephens.
Following brief presentations from all panelists, there will be an opportunity for the public to ask questions, moderated by LIPTSA representative, Jane Fuller.
